DESCRIPTION:Wunneanatsu Lamb-Cason will read from her new book “Grandmother Moon” and share examples of traditional stories. She will also discuss the importance of oral tradition in Indigenous communities and her process of bringing these stories into written form. Books will be available for purchase and can be signed by the author. \nVersion 1.0.0\nWunneanatsu Lamb-Cason is an award winning educator\, traditional storyteller\, author and advocate whose work centers on truth-telling\, representation and equity in education. A former high school history teacher\, she was named the 2024 National History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehman Institute of American History – the first Indigenous educator to receive this honor. She now serves as the Assistant Director of Native American and Indigenous Studies at Brown University. Wunneanatsu’s grandmother\, beloved indigenous educator Trudie Lamb Richmond\, lived on Schaghticoke lands along the Housatonic River in northwestern Litchfield County.

DESCRIPTION:Torrington Historical Society welcomes ArtScapades for a lecture that you can watch in your own home via ZOOM during these cold February days! \nArtScapades will present paintings that depict America as it fought to break from British rule and create an independent country. This lecture looks at how artists depicted the events that led up to the Revolution\, the Battles that raged during the conflict\, the creation and signing of a Declaration of Independence and images that reflect the early days of a new country. \nThis lecture includes works by John Trumbull\, Charles Willson Peale\, Gilbert Stuart\, John Singleton Copley\, Emanuel Leutze\, Grant Wood\, Jacob Lawrence\, and others as well as a painting from the Torrington Historical Society’s collection by Torrington artist Charles Besozzi. \nRobin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman\, of ArtScapades\, began teaching art appreciation in 1998. They have presented at libraries\, art centers\, and museums in Connecticut\, New York\, New Jersey\, Massachusetts and Florida.

DESCRIPTION:The Torrington Historical Society will host a special holiday performance inside the Hotchkiss-Fyler House Museum on Saturday\, December 13  at 6:30 pm. Attendance is limited to 35 people. Admission is $15 per person; $10 for Torrington Historical Society members. \nSpecial programs such as this one are seldom held inside the Hotchkiss-Fyler House Museum (built 1900) which is normally open for guided tours. Mr. Rick Corbo\, as Charles Dickens\, will bring to life A Christmas Carol\, as Dickens read it during his lifetime. Rick’s presentation will be set against the evening glow of the house museum decorated in its holiday finery with Christmas trees\, garlands and white lights. This is a unique opportunity for attendees to enjoy a holiday classic as they sit in one of Connecticut’s finest house museum\, decorated for the season. The program will be approximately 45 minutes in length. \nRick Corbo has been performing as Charles Dickens for over seven years. He has performed at the Storrowtown Yuletide Weekend\, The Greater Boston Dickens Fellowship\, and Franciscan University of Steubenville\, Ohio\, among others. Rick wrote and starred  as Dickens in Reclaiming the Carol which is broadcast each year on the EWTN Network. He also appeared as Dickens on an episode of the EWTN series CHESTERTON STATION. Originally from Torrington\, Rick now lives with his family in West Haven\, CT. \nThe evening will begin at 5:45 with refreshments in the Carriage House. \nCharles Dickens Program
